FOUNDATION BASED SECONDARY EDUCATION
Foundation-based secondary education is the curriculum for the first two academic years of the Dutch secondary education system. It is intended to equip pupils from all types of school with the same foundation for the rest of their school career.
In the first academic year, all schools must teach their students the same fourteen(14) subjects. At the end of that period, the student ought to have attained certain “core objectives”, pursuant to the norms stipulated by the Ministry of Education.
The fourteen(14) mandatory subjects are are:
1. Geography
2. Biology
3. Economy
4. English
5. History
6. Dutch
7. Care
8. Technology
9. Physics & Chemistry
10. Mathematics
11. Computer Science
12. Physical Education
13. Visual arts/Music/Drama
14. French/German/Spanish
